This book presents the results and discussion of archaeofaunal studies which took place in the northern San Matías Gulf (Rio Negro Province) during the last six years focussing on terrestrial mammals and birds. The general objective of this research is to determine what was the mode of operation of terrestrial vertebrates (small and big) and the importance that they had in the survival of human populations that occupied the coastline during the late Holocene (last 3000 years).

Arqueología de la Puna Argentina: Perspectivas actuales en el estudio de la diversidad y el cambio cultural

Como campo disciplinar la arqueología de la puna constituye un ámbito muy rico de construcción de teoría arqueológica en Argentina aportando problemáticas de estudio modelos y debates propios. En términos geográficos la Puna Argentina es una prolongación del Altiplano Andino el cual se extiende desde el sur de Perú abarcando también el oeste de Bolivia y sectores del norte de Chile. Como exponen los trabajos que integran este volumen la investigación actual que se lleva a cabo en esta extensa geografía se hace mediante aproximaciones que explícita o implícitamente buscan documentar y explicar la variabilidad del registro arqueológico. Y este no es un dato menor considerando que desde sus inicios la arqueología de la puna se distinguió por su énfasis en la homogeneidad.

La irrupción inkaica en el Noroeste Argentino (NOA) a principios del siglo XV d.C. produjo profundas transformaciones en su heterogéneo paisaje social. Aquella situación moldeada en la naturaleza dinámica y de intersección de un encuentro multi-étnico sin precedentes entabló una nueva experiencia en estos rincones. El análisis de las múltiples facetas que pudieron originarse reproducirse o transformarse a causa de este encuentro así como las vivencias de los actores involucrados se constituye en un campo prometedor de investigación y análisis.
Arqueología urbana en el área central de la Ciudad de Córdoba Argentina. Excavaciones en la Sede Corporativa del Banco de la Provincia de Córdoba (2014-2016)

This work is part of a line of action proposed by the Institute of Anthropology of Córdoba (IDACOR) doubly dependent executing unit of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the National University of Cordoba (UNC). This action requires the intervention of professional archaeologists in order to evaluate the impact produced by subsurface excavation in cases related to the development of real estate projects. Within this framework in February 2014 there was the need to implement an archeological impact study on land under cadastral nomenclature 04-04-020-023 in the city of Cordoba Argentina. The study was conducted in two instances. The first took place between the months of April and June 2014 consisting of various actions related to the systematic archaeological excavation registration conservation and interpretation of material culture recovered in depths between the surface and about 2.5 / 3m deep. The second stage implemented between February and August 2015 consisted of the monitoring of the excavation while using heavy machinery allowed archaeologists to reach greater depths. The results of these tasks were submitted to the local authorities in five partial reports presented collectively here in order to have all the information available in one volume. As a result of the excavations it was possible to retrieve information about land use in the last two hundred years. Previous occupations have been masked or destroyed mostly by architectural interventions in the mid-nineteenth century and early twentieth century. However more than 30 000 objects recovered during the archaeological project help us to interpret the life of the people who inhabited these spaces as well as local and international production and trade networks where they were integrated. Along with this it was possible to recover significant portions of architectural structures that probably correspond to the eighteenth century being the oldest constructive feature found on the parcel. This action perhaps the most difficult due to the sheer scale of the objects allowed the implementation of a novel technique for the recovery of archaeological objects in the city of Córdoba.

This book discusses the relationship between mobility and / or archaeological sites functionality and lithic artifacts. The problems encountered when dealing with such issues are presented from different theoretical and / or methodological perspectives and from different spatial and temporal scales. There is a consensus that from techno-typological analysis it is possible to infer differential mobility strategies and site functionality. In this regard the various case studies that are included in the book allow a tour of different ways to approach these issues from lithic artifacts in Argentina so this book is a reference contribution for both specialists and general public.

El estudio del cambio social es central para la articulación entre las escalas globales de la sociedad moderna y las particulares de los contextos coloniales; es una vía para cuestionar el proceso monolítico de constitución de la sociedad moderna. Esta Tesis de investigación tiene por objeto indagar en los aspectos teóricos de la reproducción y transformación social en el nivel de la vida cotidiana; por un momento se dejan de lado los grandes cambios para centrar el análisis en las pequeñas acciones diarias. En particular se estudia el cambio social en Floridablanca a partir de prácticas no contempladas en el plan de la Corona española.

De clasificaciones y categorizaciones: Los objetos de metal del valle de Ambato Catamarca Argentina (600-1200 d.C.)

La convención académica acerca del rol simbólico jugado por los bienes de metal en los procesos de integración de unidades socio-políticas con una desigualdad social ya institucionalizada hacia la segunda mitad del primer milenio de la era en el noroeste argentino impidió una caracterización del rol jugado por los diversos objetos de metal en los también diversos contextos en los que fueron encontrados. En este sentido creemos que la tradicional caracterización de los objetos elaborados en metal en «suntuarios» y «utilitarios» responde a una forma arbitraria y naturalizada de clasificación sustentada en tipos ideales creados a priori que impiden la posibilidad de pensar a los objetos sobre los cuales se imponen estas clasificaciones en el marco de su situacionalidad histórica y social en la que junto a las personas con las que interactúan cotidianamente intervienen activamente en la producción y reproducción de las relaciones sociales. En este sentido esta tesis se propone como objetivo comprender el papel que jugaron los objetos de metal en los diversos contextos en los que intervinieron dentro de una sociedad caracterizada por la desigualdad social la de Aguada en el Valle de Ambato.

Disponibilidad y explotación de materias primas líticas en la costa de Norpatagonia (Argentina). Un enfoque regional

El presente libro tiene como objetivo estudiar el uso de las materias primas líticas en la costa del golfo San Matías (Río Negro Argentina) durante el Holoceno medio y tardío. El entendimiento de este aspecto de la tecnología de los grupos humanos es de fundamental importancia ya que los principales materiales arqueológicos recuperados en los sitios de superficie del área de estudio son los artefactos líticos fabricados a partir de diferentes tipos de rocas. Así entender la forma en que éstas fueron seleccionadas reducidas y finalmente descartadas aportará a la comprensión del modo de vida de los grupos cazadores-recolectores que habitaron el área en el período mencionado.
El Inkario en los Valles del Sur Andino Boliviano. Los Yamparas entre la arqueología y etnohistoria

En este libro presentamos recientes investigaciones realizadas en el territorio Yampara en lo que actualmente son los valles de Chuquisaca. Esta región con el arribo Inka se convirtió en un espacio fronterizo colindando con grupos externos Chiriguano Guaraní entre otros. Lo que no se conoce en detalle es la naturaleza política de los Yampara antes del Inkario y sus relaciones con grupos altiplánicos y amazónicos. Esperamos que el presente volumen contribuya a entender este vacío.
El sitio ceremonial de La Rinconada. Organización socioespacial y religión en Ambato (Catamarca Argentina)

Este trabajo está referido a la arqueología de La Rinconada uno de los sitios localizados en las planicies del valle de Ambato (Dpto. de Ambato Catamarca) y conocido en el lugar como la Iglesia de los Indios. Su arquitectura y trama espacial sugieren un paisaje construido en función del ritual que se integra en el sistema de asentamientos del área y cuyas características lo enmarcan dentro del rango temporal el perfil ideológico y la organización sociopolítica propios del Período Medio o de Integración Regional del Noroeste argentino.

Estudios antracológicos en los espacios de combustión del Alero Deodoro Roca – Ongamira (Córdoba)

This book is about how hunter-gatherer groups maintained a relationship with the use and management of fire in the Late Holocene of Southern Precordillera. The line of study developed here as part of the anthracology made use of methodologically systematic analysis of the remains of charcoal from the archaeological site Alero Deodoro Roca B. This industry focused on a time frame of ca. 1900 years AP to ca.3900 years AP. Studies carried out in the Alero Deodoro Roca allow us to understand on the one hand the different methods of preservation of charcoal record in the succession of combustion events and secondly to discuss the variability of species present within the composition of the flora in the paleoenvironment. Functional association is proposed for various uses; as a source of heat cooking and preparation of raw materials among the possibilities.

La producción de instrumental lítico en Tiwanaku / Stone Tool Production in the Tiwanaku Heartland. El impacto del surgimiento y expansión del estado en las unidades domésticas locales / The impact of state emergence and expansion on local households

This research explores the characteristics of stone tool production in the heart of the Andean state of Tiwanaku comparing tool production on urban and rural settlements and at elite and non-elite sites. Models of the Tiwanaku state are tested and comparisons with the contemporaneous Wari state are explored. No evidence of craft specialization was recovered from urban or rural sites. The author demonstrates that there was an overall continuity in lithic production from the Formative (1500 B.C. - 400 A.D.) to Middle Horizon (400-1100 A.D.) but significant changes occured after 600 A.D. as exotic raw materials began to be exploited. The state controlled the procurement and distribution of obsidian and black basalt giving preference to urban dwellers following the experiences of earlier altiplano polities (the Pukara Chiripa and Wankarani). At the same time local groups procured smaller quantities of exotics from other (non-state controlled) sources. Projectile points were locally manufactured and were used in inter-group conflicts.
