Abstract

Description

The archaeological knowledge of the Pleistocene-early Holocene human occupations in the Pampean region has improved through the finding of new archaeological sites dated between 10,000 and 11,200 BP. Among these sites, Paso Otero 5 is characterized by the presence of extinct megamammals and modern species in association with fish-tail projectile points chronology located between ca. 10,400-10,200 years BP. The aim of this paper is twofold: 1) to address the chronology, faunal remains and lithic technology trends of the site, and 2) to discuss the late Pleistocene-early Holocene settlement system in the Pampean region.
