| dc.description | Un chispero es un trozo de roca utilizado para activar las armas de fuego mediante la producción de una chispa y la ignición de la pólvora que dispara un proyectil. Originada en Europa, esta tecnología se desarrolló entre los siglos XVII y XIX. Dado que su estudio se encuentra en una etapa incipiente en la arqueología argentina, el objetivo de este trabajo es exponer una revisión de los antecedentes disponibles hasta el momento. Se presentan y discuten aspectos generales relacionados con sus orígenes y circulación, los tipos de armas en los que eran usados, las técnicas de manufactura y las materias primas, los atributos tecno-tipológicos, el contexto de uso y el ciclo de vida, así como los antecedentes sobre chisperos recuperados en Argentina. Se espera que este trabajo de revisión y de síntesis sirva como fuente de consulta para el estudio de esta tecnología lítica histórica entre investigadores interesados y poco familiarizados con ésta. | |
| dc.description | A gunflint is a piece of rock used to activate firearms by producing a spark and the subsequent ignition of gunpowder to fire a projectile. Originated in Europe, this technology was developed and used between the 17th and 19th centuries. Since the study of this technology is at an early stage in Argentinian archaeology, the main goal of this paper is to present a review of the available data on the subject. Thus, aspects of the gunflints’ origins and circulation, the types of weapons in which they were used, the manufacturing techniques and raw materials used, the techno-typological attributes, the context of use and life cycle, and existing records up to date on gunflints recovered in archaeological contexts in Argentina, are presented and discussed. We expect that this review and synthesis paper works as a reference for the study of this “historic” technology among researchers interested and unfamiliar with it. | |
