| dc.description | La Puna de Jujuy (Argentina) es una porción del altiplano surandino rica en minerales metalíferos, que ha sido señalada como probable fuente de metales para los habitantes prehispánicos locales y de las regiones circundantes. En este artículo revisamos las evidencias antiguas de minería y metalurgia publicadas para la puna jujeña, a las que sumamos las generadas por nuestras propias investigaciones de campo en la región y los datos sobre el tema aportados por la documentación colonial temprana. A la luz de la información disponible hasta ahora, reevaluamos las propuestas que habían sido efectuadas acerca del papel que la minería y la metalurgia habrían jugado para los antiguos habitantes de la región de estudio. | |
| dc.description | The Puna of Jujuy (Argentina), part of the South Andean High Plateau, is rich in metalliferous minerals, which have been pointed out as a probable source of metals for the prehispanic inhabitants of the Puna and the surrounding areas. In this paper we review the evidences of ancient mining and metallurgy in the region published so far. Moreover, we include the ones generated during our own fieldwork and the information recovered in the early colonial documentation. Based on the data available, we reappraise the proposals made regarding the role that mining and metallurgy would have played for the ancient inhabitants in the region of study. | |
