| dc.description | Partiendo de una consideración sobre el concepto de 'domesticación', el presente trabajo discute el proceso de domesticar animales de rebaño en el altiplano chileno como un proceso de cuidado de los camélidos. Se propone que el acto de poseer camélidos no es suficiente para mantener una vida pastoril, y que no se puede domesticar seres vivos por actos de violencia o por amenazas de violencia. Luego se examinan dos sitios del norte de Chile del Arcaico Tardío y del Formativo Temprano: Puripica 1 y Tulan 54, para investigar el carácter del modo de vida de los habitantes. Hay evidencia arqueológica para una economía mixta que incluía actividades de cazar y recolectar elementos silvestres y del pastoreo de llamas. | |
| dc.description | Starting with a consideration of the concept of 'domestication', this article discusses the process of domesticating herd animais in the Chilean highlands as aprocess of caring for camelias.
It is proposed that the act of owning camelias is insufficient for maintaining a pastoral way of life, and that it is not possible to domesticate living beings by acts of violence or threats of violence.
Intimidation is an inefficient strategy in the long term. This discussion is followed by an examination of two sites of the late archaic and early formative periods in northern Chile: Puripica 1 and Tulan 54, in order to investígate the way of life of the inhabitants. The archaeological evidence suggests a mixed economy based on hunting and gathering as well as herding llamas. | |
