dc.descriptionEl presente artículo explora las transformaciones sociales y culturales que se producen a partir de la industrialización de la pesca en la segunda mitad del siglo XX en las costas de Tarapacá, en el Norte de Chile. De esta manera, se busca dejar de manifiesto la relevancia histórica, social y cultural de la pesca y los tripulantes en la región de Tarapacá como sujetos diversos que comparten oficios, historias y prácticas. Además se expone de qué manera la industrialización de la actividad pesquera afecta no sólo en la forma de llevar a cabo la actividad pesquera, sino también en la manera de verse a sí mismo como trabajador pesquero, la construcción de masculinidades y la transformación del tripulante por la tecnificación de la actividad.
dc.descriptionThis article explores the social and cultural changes that occured with the industrialization of fishing in the second half of the 20th century on the coasts of Tarapaca, northern Chile. In this way, we show the historical, social, and cultural importance of the fishing industry in the Tarapaca region and how the industry’s employees are diverse subjects who share crafts, stories and practices. In addition we investigate how the industrialization of fishing affects not only how fishing activities are carried out, but also how those who work in the industry see themselves, the construction of masculinities, and the transformation of the fishing workers in the modernization of the industry.
