| dc.description | Este trabajo resume las investigaciones arqueobotánicas llevadas a cabo en Antofagasta de la Sierra, Puna meridional argentina, a partir del año 1993. El área presenta características físicas y ambientales óptimas para realizar este tipo de estudios debido a que el clima árido reinante permite la perfecta conservación de los restos vegetales en los sitios arqueológicos. Se prospectó un elevado número de sitios que habrían sido habitados por grupos humanos cazadores-recolectores. El análisis del registro arqueobotánico de estos permitió observar la transición entre la recolección de plantas y la agricultura incipiente. Las dataciones radiocarbónicas obtenidas hasta el momento indican que el poblamiento del área tuvo lugar entre ca. 10.000-400 años AP, correspondiendo a las fechas más tempranas registradas en la Argentina. El objetivo es ofrecer un panorama y a la vez una síntesis que refleje el uso de las plantas como recursos en el pasado prehistórico en este sector de la Puna. Al mismo tiempo, analizar el modo en que estas actividades incidieron en los sistemas de asentamiento del área y en los vínculos con otras regiones, así como también la transición entre una economía basada en la cazarecolección hacia otra que acompaña estas actividades con el cultivo de algunas plantas. Por último, se espera que la metodología implementada sea útil para futuros trabajos. | |
| dc.description | Human groups and plant species in the argentine southern puna: archaeobotany of Antofagasta de la Sierra. This paper summarizes the archaeobotanical research carried out at Antofagasta de la Sierra, southern Argentinean Puna, since 1993. Physical and environmental characteristics are appropriate for this kind of analysis due to the aridity that allows for the perfect conservation of plant species remains at archaeological sites. A large number of sites that could have been inhabited by hunter-gatherer human groups was recorded in the area. The study of their archaeobotanical record revealed the transition between the gathering of plant species and incipient agriculture. The radiocarbon dates obtained to date indicate that the human occupation of the area took place between ca. 10000 and 400 years BP, corresponding to the earliest dates recorded in Argentina. The aims of this paper are to offer an overview and synthesis that reflects the use of plant species as resources during the prehistoric past in this sector of the Puna region; to analyze the ways in which these activities impacted settlement systems in the area; to establish links to other regions; and to understand the transition from an economy based on hunter-gathering, to one that combines hunter-gathering with some plant species cultivation. The goal is that the methodology implemented in the study be used to carry out future research. | |
