dc.descriptionProponemos en estas páginas analizar las prácticas y representaciones de género de los policías de la provincia de Buenos Aires. Por un lado, estudiaremos la construcción de un ideal policial, un modelo de “verdadero policía”, particularizado por el coraje, la bravura y la ausencia del temor. Gestos, modismos, usos del cuerpo que remiten a un tipo particular de labor policial vinculada a la “lucha contra el delito”. La ligazón entre policía y masculinidad se traza en la fuerza física como característica necesaria y distintiva del hacer policial. Esta representación, ideal viril, configura un “deber ser” con el que los/las agentes dialogan en su cotidianeidad. Entonces, por otro lado, desarmaremos esta representación mostrando cómo los/las policías que tienen labores diferentes toman este molde, lo usan y lo modifican. Finalizaremos, analizando cómo ese ideal masculino se pone en escena, se teatraliza, por diferentes agentes en diferentes interacciones.

In this paper the gender practices and representations of the police force of Buenos Aires province are analyzed. First, the construction of the police ideal, the true “police officer” model is elucidated and seen to be characterized by courage, bravery and the absence of fear. Gestures, idioms, and uses of the body refer to a particular type of police work linked to “the fight against crime”. The connection between police and masculinity is traced through physical force as a distinctive and necessary characteristic of police practice. This representation, the virile ideal, establishes a “must be” that officers use in their daily discourse. Second, however, this representation is disarmed by showing how police officers who perform the role differently take this mold, use it, and modify it. In conclusion, the paper analyzes how the male ideal is performed and dramatized by different officers in distinct interactions.
