dc.descriptionEste artículo analiza “el trabajo de formación de la clase alta”. Mediante el estudio de trayectorias de vida de 63 adultos entre 30 y 80 años se describe cómo, en su lucha por imponerse como un grupo de privilegio, las “grandes familias” producen diferencias a partir de sus “apellidos tradicionales” −la trama de relaciones en la que estos se inscriben−, su vinculación con “la tierra” y con “la historia nacional”. Se presenta el trabajo de constante reelaboración que implica la formación de la “clase alta”, que supone a la familia congregada a través de historias familiares que buscan integrar los intereses de cada uno de sus miembros. Asimismo, se describirán los conflictos en su interior para mostrar su carácter productivo en la “construcción de la familia tradicional”. Finalmente, se analizan los límites que la matriz igualitaria −que caracteriza, aunque sea como un mito originario, a nuestra sociedad− le impone a la conformación de este grupo social. El trabajo contribuye al análisis de los usos de determinadas metáforas del parentesco como vector de legitimidad del acceso a algunas posiciones sociales y destaca la importancia de incluir las relaciones familiares en el análisis de la acción capitalista.
dc.descriptionThis paper describes “the making of the upper class.” By analyzing the life trajectories of 63 members of “traditional families” between 80 and 30 years old it describes how, in their struggle to establish themselves as a privileged group, the “great families” produce differences that arise from their “traditional names,” their connection with “the land,” and their connection with “national history”. The article presents the constant work involved in the making of the “upper class,” which implies keeping the family together through family stories that seek to integrate the interests of each of its members. The role of conflict within families is described in order to show their productive part in the “construction of the traditional family.” Finally, the limits imposed on the creation of this social group by the egalitarian configuration of Argentinean society are analyzed. The work contributes to the analysis of the uses of certain metaphors of kinship as vectors of legitimacy in the access to certain social positions and highlights the importance of including family relationships in the analysis of capitalism.
