| dc.description | A mediados de 2007, tres organizaciones sociales en Mendoza comenzaron un proceso organizativo conjunto para defender como espacio público los terrenos de la ex Estación Central del Ferrocarril General San. Martín, actualmente abandonados tras su cierre. Frente a la aparición de nuevos proyectos de inversión privada, fundamentalmente inmobiliarios, estas organizaciones confluyeron en una lucha común bajo las consignas “No al uso privado de tierra pública” y “Planeamiento y gestión participativos sobre los destinos de estos terrenos”. En este artículo procuro reconstruir la experiencia de uno de esos colectivos, el de ferroviarios. Se trata de indagar su punto de vista sobre dicho conflicto, rastreando en su experiencia y memoria histórica, las tradiciones y prácticas políticas que permitieron movilizar la construcción de ese espacio como bien común. El territorio se ha constituido en uno de los campos privilegiados de disputa. El proceso de espacialización de la lucha de clases implica la privatización paulatina de todo lo público y común, incluido el territorio. La noción de bienes comunes resulta imprescindible para pensar desde una perspectiva contrahegemónica. De ahí la importancia de interrogar la experiencia de los ferroviarios reconociendo, en su praxis, aquellos elementos que permiten realizar una lectura a contrapelo de la privatización y mercantilización como único proyecto de vida. | |
| dc.description | In mid 2007 three social organizations in Mendoza started a common organizational process to defend the grounds of the former Central Station of the Ferrocarril Gral. San Martín (General San Martín railway) as a public space, currently abandoned after its closure. Confronted with new projects of private investment, mainly related to Real Estate, these organizations united in common struggle under the slogans “No to the private use of public land” and “Participative planning and management for the use of these lands”. In this article the experience of one such collective--the railway collective--is reconstructed. The aim is to ascertain the viewpoint of the collective on the conflict, examining their experiences and historical memory to track the traditions and political practices that allowed them to shape the space as common property. Territory has become one of the key areas of dispute; the process of spatialization of class struggle entails the progressive privatization of all things public and common, including territory. The notion of common property is essential in order to think from a counter-hegemonic perspective. Hence, the importance of probing the railway workers’ experiences and recognizing, in their praxis, the elements that allow us to carry out an against the grain reading of privatization and commoditization as the sole purpose of life. | |
