| dc.description | No sólo los erizos de mar son consumidos desde tiempos inmemoriables como alimento, sino que se sabe de sus beneficios para la salud de los erizos de mar data del al menos el Siglo XVII. Desde la década del 80 en Oriente se investiga sobre las moléculas responsables de estos beneficios para la salud. A raíz de estas investigaciones existen dos medicamentos para cardiopatías y glaucoma y suplementos dietarios que se venden en oriente. En Argentina, ARBACIA es una empresa de base tecnológica, que junto a su equipo, cultiva erizos de mar de forma ética y sustentable para obtener metabolitos secundarios y generar productos biotecnológicos. Frente a la pandemia de COVID-19, el equipo de trabajo interdisciplinario enfocó sus esfuerzos en buscar soluciones y desarrolló el “Proyecto EchA al COVID-19: Desarrollo de producción para la terapia de COVID-19 como droga antiviral y/o droga acompañante cardioprotectora y antioxidante” que fue reconocido por el Senado de la Nación. A partir de este proyecto se perfecciono la extracción y purificación de la molécula Echinochroma A, para colaborar en aliviar la tormenta de citoquinas que se desencadena ene los casos más graves de COVID-19 y es responsable de la mayor parte de las muertes producidas por esta enfermedad. Recientemente se ha presentado un proyecto para realizar pruebas médicas en Puerto Madryn, la ciudad en dónde reside gran parte del equipo. | es-ES |
| dc.description | Not only sea urchins are eaten as food since prehistoric times, they are also beneficial for the human health, known from at least the 17th century. Since the 80s in the Far East, research has been done on the molecules responsible for these health benefits. As a result of these investigations, there are two medications for heart disease and glaucoma and dietary supplements that are sold in the Far East. In Argentina, ARBACIA is a Start Up that, together with its team, does sea urchin aquaculture in an ethical and sustainable way to obtain secondary metabolites and generate biotechnological products. Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, the interdisciplinary team focused its efforts on finding solutions and developed the research project “EchA COVID-19: Development of production for the therapy of COVID-19 as antiviral drug and / or cardioprotective companion drug and antioxidant” that was recognized by the Senate of the Nation. From this project, the extraction and purification of the Echinochroma A molecule was set up, to collaborate in alleviating the cytokine storm that is trigger in the most serious cases of COVID-19 and is responsible for most of the deaths caused by this disease.
