Even though geographic origin data written down in historical documents allow us to make estimations of migration, the surnames found there are also useful in order to calculate the probable net migratory input in terms of new genes to the populations. The aim of this work was to analyze and to compare the results obtained by means of both kinds of data. The sources we utilized were: the Census of the year 1832 for Córdoba city and the database published by A Arcondo (1998), which was completed and corrected by the authors. The behaviour of the ethnic group of "noble" men and women was analyzed considering, on the one hand, the whole adult population and, on the other, the identified marriages, by estimating the migration through a genetic population model applied to the surnames distribution. Only to be compared to the former ethnic group, the above-cited analysis was made for the "pardo" population. The results showed that, in spite of the relatively scarce number of men in the Census, they evidenced more immigration, both through the higher proportion of trans-oceanic immigrants among them and the higher surname diversity and only once represented surnames percentage. Meanwhile, the highest migratory input belonged to the married "noble" population.
