| dc.description | La clasificación dicotómica que le ha sido casi invariablemente otorgada a los objetos de metal, ha delimitado la caracterización de “lo metálico” a aquello prescripto por las categorías a través de las cuales justamente se lo clasificó, esto es, suntuario o utilitario. En este trabajo proponemos que el carácter suntuario o utilitario de un objeto no reside en ningún atributo esencial de éste, sino en arbitrarios esquemas de clasificación que en determinado momento se aplicaron sobre los objetos y cuyo sentido quedó asociado mecánicamente según su ubicación en uno u otro tipo. Es analizando el papel desempeñado por losobjetos metálicos en su vinculación con las prácticas sociales en las cuales participaron, como podremos acceder a la significatividad social que su existencia implicó, trascendiendo así la arbitraria dicotomía entre “objetos utilitarios” y “objetos simbólicos”. | es-ES |
| dc.description | The opposite classification that has almost invariably been granted to the metal objects has defined the characterization of “the metallic” to that prescribed by the categories through which fairly classified it. This is, sumptuary or utilitarian. In this paper, we propose that the sumptuary or utilitarian character of an object doesn’t reside in any essential attribute of this, but in arbitrary classification schemes that in certain moment were applied on the objects, and which sense was mechanically associated according to its belonging to one or another type. It is analyzing the role carried out by the metallic objects in their association with the social practices in which participated, that we will enable us to access to the social significance that their existence implied, transcending the arbitrary dichotomy between “utilitarian objects” and “symbolic objects”. | en-US |
