dc.descriptionPhD. Mario E. Teruggi (1919-2002) was a leading scientist and professor who made unique contributions to the knowledge of igneous rocks, as well as to the regional geology of Argentina, particularly the crystalline basement of Tandilia. However, his most significant creative works were devoted to Sedimentology. Mario Teruggi was the founder of the first major school of this discipline in Argentina. His scientific production stands out for its sharpness, consistency, creativity and innovative input. He clearly perceived the methodological changes occurred in Earth Sciences during the sixties and generously disclosed them among his students. One of the aspects that most interested him from the scientific point of view was the correct use of the nomenclature of the rocks, its meaning and systematics. He developed almost entirely his scientific career and teaching in the Faculty of Natural Sciences of La Plata, in which he was dean (1964-1966) and director of the Museum (1994-1996). Besides, from the humanistic viewpoint, the literature was undoubtedly his passion. He published nine novels, stories, several short tales and essays, including his significant contributions to the knowledge of Argentinian slang. He was distinguished as Cavaliere Uffiziale of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy (1971), Beloved Son of the city of Dolores (1979), Honorary Member of the Argentian Geological Association (1980) and Professor Emeritus at the National University of La Plata (1987). The Avenue access to the Museum of La Plata and the Paleontological Museum of the city of Dolores bear his name as homage to his memory. Mario Teruggi was a sensitive and multifaceted intellectual, an acute thinker, an original and creative researcher and gifted writer. In transit as a scientist, teacher and man of letters he left a substantial work and contributed to enriching the lives of many of his contemporaries.en-US

Teruggi (1919-2002) fue un destacado profesor universitario e investigador científico que hizo singulares aportes al conocimiento de las rocas ígneas, así como a la geología regional argentina, en particular del basamento cristalino y especialmente de la región de Tandilia. Sin embargo, sus más significativos trabajos creativos estuvieron dedicados a la Sedimentología. Mario Teruggi fue el fundador de la primera y principal escuela de esta disciplina en nuestro país. Su producción científica se destaca por su agudeza, rigurosidad, creatividad y afán innovador. Vislumbró con absoluta perspicacia los notables cambios metodológicos en las Ciencias de la Tierra y los volcó con generosidad en sus discípulos y alumnos. Uno de los aspectos que más le apasionaron desde el punto de vista científico fue el correcto empleo de la nomenclatura de las rocas, su significado y propuestas para su sistemática. Su carrera científica y docente se desarrolló casi enteramente en la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo de La Plata, de la que fue decano (1964-1966) y director del Museo (1994-1996). En el plano humanístico, las letras eran, sin dudas, su pasión. Publicó nueve novelas, narraciones y relatos, varios cuentos y ensayos, entre los que se destacan sus aportes al conocimiento del lunfardo. Fue distinguido como Cavaliere Uffiziale de la Orden del Mérito de la República de Italia (1971), Hijo Dilecto de la ciudad de Dolores (1979), Miembro Honorario de la Asociación Geológica Argentina (1980) y Profesor Emérito de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata (1987). Como homenajes a su memoria llevan su nombre la avenida de acceso al Museo de La Plata y el Museo Paleontológico Dolorense. Mario Teruggi fue un erudito sensible, un intelectual multifacético, un pensador agudo, un investigador original y creativo, y un escritor dotado. En su tránsito como científico, docente y hombre de letras dejó una obra sustancial y contribuyó a enriquecer la vida de muchos de sus contemporáneos.es-ES
