dc.descriptionAbstract A general consensus about the Malvinas Islands was that its first human settlement occurred at the end of the 18th Century, when people of European origin settled there; in the second half of the following century, some Fuegian Yaghan from southern Tierra del Fuego were transitorily translated to the archipelago by Anglican missionaries. Nevertheless, during the last decades some papers postulate sporadic or transitory occupations of Fuegian people before the arrival of Europeans. However, if the power of conviction is low or non-existent, a possible event not necessarily is probable; a hypothesis should no automatically be considered proven without unequivocal empirical evidence to corroborate it. Therefore, in this article we say that the previously accepted way about the beginning of the human settlement of Tierra del Fuego is still the most valid.en-US
dc.descriptionResumen Respecto de las islas Malvinas existía un consenso general en que su primer poblamiento por seres humanos ocurrió a fines del siglo XVIII, cuando se instalaron gentes procedentes de Europa; en la segunda mitad del siglo siguiente hubo presencias transitorias de fueguinos yaganes trasladados por misioneros anglicanos desde el sur de Tierra del Fuego. Pero durante las últimas décadas han aparecido varios artículos que postulan ocupaciones esporádicas o transitorias de gente de ese origen étnico en tiempos anteriores al arribo de los europeos. Sin embargo, su poder de convicción es escaso o inexistente: un suceso posible no necesariamente es probable, una hipótesis no debe ser automáticamente considerada como comprobada si no se cuenta con evidencia empírica inequívoca que la apoye. Por lo tanto, en este artículo decimos que la visión inicialmente aceptada acerca del comienzo del poblamiento humano de las islas Malvinas sigue siendo la más válida.    es-ES
