dc.descriptionThis article aims to interpret the myth of the black bull and the narratives of diabolical pacts, taking as an empirical reference a set of rural areas located in the Copo and Alberdi departments, in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. The central argument is that the myth recycles narratives about pacts to problematize, dramatize and talk about the historical-environmental limits found by the traditional/extensive bovine socio-technical system in an environment such as the dry chaco during the 20th century. This form of frontier cattle ranching began in the 18th century when ranches and indigenous reservations were introduced in the region, and it expanded in different economic-productive cycles from west to east until the middle of the 20th century. However, these cycles were not only limited by the possibility of placing the products in alternative markets but also by the pressure exerted on an environment such as the Chaco with a reduced regeneration capacity in relation to other ecosystems such as the Pampas. The work is framed in a historical ethnographic methodological approach in which field work and archive are articulated for the elaboration of the corpus.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo tiene como objetivo interpretar el mito del toro negro y las narrativas de pactos diabólicos, tomando como referente empírico un conjunto parajes rurales ubicados en los departamentos Copo y Alberdi, en la provincia argentina de Santiago del Estero. El argumento central es que el mito recicla narrativas sobre pactos para problematizar, dramatizar y hablar sobre los límites históricos-ambientales que encontró el sistema socio-técnico bovino tradicional/extensivo en un ambiente como el chaco seco durante el siglo XX. Esta forma de cría ganadera fronteriza fue gestándose desde el siglo XVIII a partir de que se introdujeron estancias y reducciones indígenas en la región, y se expandió en diferentes ciclos económicos-productivos de oeste a este hasta mediados del siglo XX. Ahora bien, estos ciclos no sólo estuvieron limitados por la posibilidad de colocar los productos en mercados alternativos sino también por la presión ejercida sobre un ambiente como el chaqueño con una capacidad de regeneración reducida en relación a otros ecosistemas como el pampeano. El trabajo se enmarca en un abordaje metodológico etnográfico histórico en el que se articulan trabajo de campo y archivo para la elaboración del corpus.es-ES
