| dc.description | Se presentan los resultados de un test realizado sobre un conjunto de mandíbulas adultas de sexo conocido, utilizando una técnica de determinación basada en el análisis de la morfología de la rama mandibular (Loth y Henneberg, 1996). Nuestras observaciones confirman las realizadas por otros investigadores quienes, trabajando con tamaños muestrales similares, cuestionan la eficiencia diagnóstica de la nueva técnica. Se concluye que la misma no contribuye per se a mejorar la eficiencia de las variables tradicionalmente utilizadas para la estimación del sexo en esta estructura anatómica. | |
| dc.description | We present here the results of a test performed on a set of adult mandibles of known sex, using a new technique (Loth y Henneberg, 1996) to determine sex, based on the analysis of the morphology of the posterior ramus of the mandible. Our observations confirm former ones by other researchers working on similar sample sizes, regarding the alleged efficiency of this technique. We conclude that the new technique does not contribute per se to improve the efficiency of those variables that are commonly used to estimate sex from the morphology of the mandible. | |
